A spate of frigid temperatures across much of the country will present a test for schools' aging heating systems.

On Sunday, a cold front will push through the area, which will bring the risk for rain and a few thunderstorms. A few storms may be on the stronger side during the late afternoon or evening. Be sure to check back with updates regarding the storm risk this weekend.

The looming cold weather will not be as dramatic as the one that hit Palm Beach County last week.

DANE COUNTY, Wis. (WKOW) -- Farmers are taking extra precautions to take care of their cows during this weekend's cold front. Brianna Ripp, a farmer, said she began preparing the cows as soon as she saw the forecast.

A significant cold front will bring storms and gusty winds to the area on Sunday; dangerously cold Temperatures follow.

A potential cold front late in the week "could rival some of the coldest conditions seen so far this season in Florida."

The frigid winter weather in 1977 and 2010 also occurred when the Arctic Oscillation was in the negative phase.

Southern Colorado will experience a cold front on Sunday night, bringing a dusting of snow to the region. Monday will be chilly behind the front.

A cold front will bring freezing temperatures in Flagler County and much cooler weather in Volusia, according to the National Weather Service.

Cold rain will transition to freezing rain by Saturday afternoon, followed by several days of below-freezing temperatures.
