Severe weather is expected to bring subzero temperatures the northern Plains as soon as Thursday, then reach the Mississippi Valley, the Northeast and the Ohio Valley by Sunday.

A major winter storm is set to spread heavy snow and damaging ice across a large portion of the United States over the coming days.

Additionally, where it will be dangerously icy, the weather authority said “hazardous travel conditions, power outages, and tree damage are likely.”
