UIL realignment affects East Texas high school football

The UIL biennial realignment reveal Monday was greeted with large approval from San Antonio and Harlandale ISDs as they'll band together and form one district in football. District 14-5A-II will be comprised of SAISD's Brackenridge, Burbank, Edison, Highlands, Sam Houston, Jefferson and Lanier along with Harlandale and McCollum.
Monday's UIL realignment brought about major shifts across Central Texas high school football, particularly for Cedar Park, Vandegrift and Dripping Springs.
Every realignment cycle, you have head coaches who breathe a sigh of relief looking at their new district. Others, not so much. Playoff paths get harder, or easier, and there’s a running joke amongst those in the industry that some coaches will wait until realignment before making a decision to stay or leave a job.
High school athletic programs across Texas learned their competitive landscape for the next two seasons during the University Interscholastic League’s biennial realignment. Local coaches and athletic directors met at the Region IX Education Center in Wichita Falls on Monday to find out their district opponents.
